Consumer travel trends of the future exposed

In a fascinating report from Amadeus and Future Foundation they consider the consumer travel trends of the future, literally gazing into the crystal ball shining the spot light on the impact facing future business travel.

Business travel will undoubtably be affected by a shift in changing work patterns including an increased desire for a better work-life balance, more personalised trips and the issue of sustainability where we are all encouraged to be more environmentally friendly. In addition the demand for easier booking systems, time-saving check-in options, powerful connectivity and greater incentives around loyalty are all set to become more important and more in

demand.

Six future traveller groupings have been identified – Ethical Travellers, Cultural Purists, Reward Hunters, Simplicity Searchers, Obligation Meeters and Social Capital Seekers. It is predicted there will be a shift in the way we select destinations, make purchasing decisions and the travel services available. One to watch.

The top five most popular cities are London, Bangkok, Paris, Dubai and Istanbul. New Breathtaking Terminal at Changi AirportPlanned to open in 2018 Singapore’s Changi Airport will have a new terminal building like no other. Five storeysabove ground and five below it will also incorporate the world’s tallest indoor waterfall as well as a large indoorpark with trees and plants and a walking trail. It is also planned to have additional high-end shops and a 130 room

hotel as well as improved check-in and transfer services.

SME’s to benefit from HS2The HS2 high speed £50bn pound project linking London to the Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West is expectedto boost business and productivity for SME’s. According to a recent survey by Close Brothers Business Barometer

amongst 700 SME’s, a third said HS2 would have a positive impact on their business with 52% expecting to increase

their future growth.

Airline newseasyJet unveils new liveryTo mark its 20th anniversary in November easyJet is refreshing its livery introducing a new look which sees it dropping the ‘.com’, making the words easyJet larger and extending its trademark orange marking.

Singapore Airlines to launch premium economy class

Singapore Airlines is launching its premium economy class from August 2015 with Singapore to Sydney being the first route to get this new service. London is due to receive the new cabin class from 29 August with passengers travelling from Manchester enjoying the service from 22 September. Premium economy class will offer a 38 inch seat pitch, a wider seat, the largest TV in its class and additional add-on benefits including priority check-in, larger

baggage allowance and champagne.

Changes to BA’s On Business Programme

British Airways has launched a new loyalty programme for Small Medium Sized companies entitled On Business which will offer members more opportunities to earn and spend points across the British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia network. The new programme still offers member only discounts with members’ able to choose to receive points based on the amount they spend or choose a discount on selected flights. New members receive a welcome bonus of triple On Business points on the first six eligible flights within the first 12 months of membership.

British Airways to switch terminal at Gatwick

British Airways is planning to move from its current home at North Terminal to the South Terminal in November 2016. The move will include a new Executive Club lounge and check in area. This is all part of an overall £2.2bn investment programme by Gatwick Airport including £120 million improvements at the railway station.
