Buoyant mood for travel

Leisure and business travel for this year looks buoyant according to two recent surveys.

A YouGov poll taken post General Election and with a sample of more than 5,000 consumers indicated 56% saying they intend to travel overseas in the coming months with 75% of those planning a visit to Europe. The combination of a strong pound and a decline in the cost of crude oil has undoubtedly made a positive impact. City breaks are now seen as more popular than beach holidays with a growth trend in short breaks lasting 1 to 3 nights. This same sample group also expects to see the UK economy continue its improvement which last year grew by 2.6%.

And when it comes to business travel there is similar optimism born out by travel managers attending a Barclays Travel Forum in May, where more than half (52%) said they were expecting to see some growth with the majority remaining either somewhat or very confident about 2015 compared to 2014.
